Mongolia (X tons) was the main destination for banana and plantain exports from China, with a 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia (X tons), with less than 0.1% share of total exports.

In value terms, Mongolia ($X) remains the key foreign market for bananas and plantains exports from China, comprising 6.2% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 0.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Mongolia stood at +9.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-30.1% per year) and Japan (-32.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average banana and plantain export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into China
Banana and plantain imports into China reduced slightly to X tons in 2022, waning by -2.7% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 119%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, banana and plantain imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 142%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
The Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) were the main suppliers of banana and plantain imports to China, together comprising 85% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +182.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest banana and plantain suppliers to China were the Philippines ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Cambodia ($X), together accounting for 83% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +241.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
