Cereal Germ Market Size in China
The Chinese cereal germ market fell to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +43.1% against 2016 indices. After two years of decline, overseas shipments of cereal germ increased by 231% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cereal germ exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a slight expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Japan (X tons) was the main destination for cereal germ exports from China, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, cereal germ exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (X tons), fivefold. Indonesia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.

In value terms, Japan ($X) remains the key foreign market for cereal germ exports from China, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 7.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Japan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (-19.0% per year) and Thailand (+63.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average cereal germ export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -21.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 82% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China
In 2021, overseas purchases of cereal germ increased by 93% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 412% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cereal germ imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 243%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
South Korea (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main suppliers of cereal germ imports to China, with a combined 95% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +128.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cereal germ to China, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.5% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
