The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 261%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Djibouti (X tons), Benin (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) were the main destinations of clove exports from China, together comprising 56% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Djibouti (with a CAGR of +221.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for clove exported from China were Benin ($X), Djibouti ($X) and Bangladesh ($X), with a combined 55% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Djibouti, with a CAGR of +205.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average clove export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Benin (+13.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China
In 2022, the amount of cloves imported into China skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 33% against the year before. In general, imports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 697,750% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, clove imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 285,275%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Indonesia (X tons) and Madagascar (X tons) were the main suppliers of clove imports to China.
