The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cocoa butter exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 69%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Estonia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of cocoa butter exports from China, together accounting for 75% of total exports. Russia, Germany and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +51.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2022, imports of cocoa butter into China expanded slightly to X tons, growing by 4.3% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, cocoa butter imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +3.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X.
