In 2022, the average yield of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres in China declined rapidly to X tons per ha, with a decrease of -28% on the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 50%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha, and then reduced dramatically in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, approx. X ha of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres were harvested in China; jumping by 206% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre production attained the maximum at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres, when their volume increased by 75% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep setback. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Japan (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from China, together comprising 93% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +1,288.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Japan ($X) remains the key foreign market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres exports from China, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Japan amounted to -4.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Philippines (+2,109.6% per year) and Germany (-3.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -33.2% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Imports into China

In 2022, approx. X tons of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres were imported into China; approximately reflecting 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre supplier to China, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sri Lanka (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Vietnam (X tons), with a 9.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India stood at +8.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (-2.9% per year) and Vietnam (-4.8% per year).

In value terms, India ($X), Brazil ($X) and Tanzania ($X) constituted the largest coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre suppliers to China, together accounting for 73% of total imports.

Brazil, with a CAGR of +12.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -13.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 21%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
