Cream Fresh Market Size in China

After three years of growth, the Chinese cream fresh market decreased by -0.4% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, posted significant growth. Cream fresh consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Exports from China

In 2022, approx. X tons of cream fresh were exported from China; declining by -7.9% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 145% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, cream fresh exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 106% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for cream fresh exports from China, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, cream fresh exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hong Kong SAR totaled +66.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (0.0% per year) and Bahrain (+44.3% per year).

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) remains the key foreign market for cream fresh exports from China, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Hong Kong SAR totaled +59.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (0.0% per year) and Bahrain (+40.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cream fresh export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahrain (-3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Cream Fresh Imports

Imports into China

In 2022, overseas purchases of cream fresh decreased by -6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, cream fresh imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 91%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, New Zealand (X tons) constituted the largest cream fresh supplier to China, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, cream fresh imports from New Zealand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from New Zealand amounted to +31.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+29.1% per year) and the UK (+48.6% per year).

In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cream fresh to China, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from New Zealand stood at +35.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+32.0% per year) and the UK (+54.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cream fresh import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were New Zealand ($X per ton) and the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Ireland ($X per ton) and Australia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
