After two years of decline, the Chinese direct dye market increased by 1.1% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Japan amounted to -3.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+13.7% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-0.3% per year).

In 2021, the average direct dye export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild expansion. For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in supplies from abroad of direct dyes and preparations based thereon, which increased by 7.8% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, direct dye imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +68.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest direct dye supplier to China, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, direct dye imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India stood at +28.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+0.3% per year) and the United States (+5.4% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of direct dyes and preparations based thereon to China, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from India totaled +20.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-3.2% per year) and Thailand (+7.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average direct dye import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 9.7%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
