Disperse Dye Market Size in China

In 2021, the Chinese disperse dye market decreased by -5.8% to $X, falling for the third year in a row after seven years of growth. In general, the total consumption indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -25.5% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, disperse dye production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 23%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, exports of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon from China surged to X tons, growing by 31% against the year before. In general, exports, however, saw a mild descent. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, disperse dye exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of disperse dye exports from China, with a combined 42% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Pakistan, Vietnam, Egypt, Brazil, Bangladesh, Thailand, Japan, India and Iran, which together accounted for a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +8.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for disperse dye exported from China were Indonesia ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and South Korea ($X), together comprising 40% of total exports. Turkey, Vietnam, Pakistan, Japan, Thailand, Bangladesh, Egypt, Brazil, India and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.

Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +15.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average disperse dye export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, disperse dye export price decreased by -17.4% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 47%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Disperse Dye Imports

Imports into China

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon, when their volume decreased by -9.8% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 74%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, disperse dye imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest disperse dye supplier to China, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, disperse dye imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Japan (X tons), with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from India amounted to +36.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+0.1% per year) and Japan (+6.2% per year).

In value terms, the largest disperse dye suppliers to China were India ($X), Japan ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 69% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Mexico, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan (Chinese) and the United States, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Among the main suppliers, the United States, with a CAGR of +32.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average disperse dye import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 25% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
