In value terms, South Korea ($X) remains the key foreign market for dried or salted fish exports from China, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Portugal ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to South Korea totaled +1.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Portugal (+0.6% per year) and Brazil (+15.1% per year).

The average dried or salted fish export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, dried or salted fish imports fell markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 238% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, Vietnam (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of dried or salted fish to China, with a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, dried or salted fish imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Myanmar (X tons), more than tenfold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam amounted to +313.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Myanmar (+5.4% per year) and Thailand (+35.8% per year).

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dried or salted fish to China, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Myanmar ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 3.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam totaled +276.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Myanmar (+5.3% per year) and Thailand (+16.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average dried or salted fish import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
