After three years of growth, the Chinese feldspar market decreased by -7.5% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed notable growth. Exports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) was the main destination for feldspar exports from China, accounting for a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, feldspar exports to Taiwan (Chinese) exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), fourfold. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9% share.

These countries were followed by Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong SAR and Bangladesh, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Among the main countries of destination, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +9,983.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average feldspar export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 127% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into China

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of feldspar, when their volume increased by 16% to X tons. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, feldspar imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -24.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest feldspar supplier to China, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, feldspar imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Zimbabwe (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India totaled +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Zimbabwe (-3.1% per year) and Turkey (+27.6% per year).

In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X) constituted the largest supplier of feldspar to China, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Zimbabwe totaled -1.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+2.4% per year) and Turkey (+26.2% per year).

In 2021, the average feldspar import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 33%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
