The Chinese market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines surged to $X in 2021, picking up by 18% against the previous year. After two years of decline, overseas shipments of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines increased by 36% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 150% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports from China, with a 95% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hong Kong SAR totaled -10.6%.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) remains the key foreign market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines exports from China, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Hong Kong SAR stood at +1.3%.
Export Prices by Country
The average export price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -18.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 68%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+13.3%).

Imports into China
In 2021, the amount of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines imported into China rose rapidly to X tons, increasing by 15% on the year before. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 72%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Israel (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine to China, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports from Israel exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Jordan (X tons), threefold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Israel stood at +9.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Jordan (+5.8% per year) and India (+63.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine suppliers to China were Chile ($X), Israel ($X) and Jordan ($X), together comprising 78% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Japan and the United States, which together accounted for a further 19%.
India, with a CAGR of +65.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
