In 2021, overseas shipments of fluoropolymers increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +41.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 41%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fluoropolymers exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

South Korea (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of fluoropolymers exports from China, with a combined 39% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, Taiwan (Chinese), Vietnam, India, Thailand, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Nigeria and Brazil, which together accounted for a further 41%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Nigeria (with a CAGR of +63.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average fluoropolymers export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the tenth year in a row, China recorded growth in supplies from abroad of fluoropolymers, which increased by 26% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a strong expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fluoropolymers imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +116.6% against 2013 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Japan (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of fluoropolymers to China, accounting for a 33% share of total imports. Moreover, fluoropolymers imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Japan stood at +8.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+1.6% per year) and France (+15.1% per year).

In value terms, Japan ($X), the United States ($X) and France ($X) were the largest fluoropolymers suppliers to China, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, India and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +183.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average fluoropolymers import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 10% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
