In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 110% against the previous year. South Korea (X tons), Mongolia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main destinations of concrete reinforcing bar exports from China, with a combined 32% share of total exports. Myanmar, Thailand, Belgium, Italy, Indonesia, Guinea, the Philippines, India, Malaysia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +177.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for concrete reinforcing bar exported from China were South Korea ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Mongolia ($X), together comprising 28% of total exports. Imports into China

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of concrete reinforcing bars, when their volume decreased by -67.9% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 1,278%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 626%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) constituted the largest concrete reinforcing bar supplier to China, with a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, concrete reinforcing bar imports from Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Malaysia amounted to +1,616.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-6.0% per year) and Vietnam (+487.9% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of concrete reinforcing bars to China, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Malaysia amounted to +1,179.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-6.4% per year) and Vietnam (+461.6% per year).

In 2022, the average concrete reinforcing bar import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 53% against the previous year.
