In 2021, the Chinese imines market decreased by -30.6% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a noticeable decrease. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof increased by 36% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports showed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, imines exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a strong increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of imines exports from China, together comprising 36% of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, India, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Brazil, the UK, South Africa, Australia and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 38%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +37.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for imines and their derivatives and salts thereof exports from China, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +5.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+18.9% per year) and Japan (+9.1% per year).

Imports into China

In 2021, purchases abroad of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof decreased by -7.7% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 58%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imines imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 41%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

France (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main suppliers of imines imports to China, together accounting for 66% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Italy and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +185.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof to China, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France totaled +18.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-1.7% per year) and Japan (-0.3% per year).
