The Chinese memories market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after three years of decline. In general, the total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of multichip integrated circuits: memories increased by 13% to X units, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +81.7% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 22%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, memories exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
South Korea (X units), Singapore (X units) and Vietnam (X units) were the main destinations of memories exports from China, together accounting for 33% of total exports. Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.7%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +32.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($X) remains the key foreign market for multichip integrated circuits: memories exports from China, comprising 25% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 6.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to South Korea stood at +25.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+42.8% per year) and Malaysia (+41.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average memories export price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

For the fifth consecutive year, China recorded growth in supplies from abroad of multichip integrated circuits: memories, which increased by 9.4% to X units in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 22%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, memories imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 38%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, South Korea (X units) constituted the largest memories supplier to China, with a 24% share of total imports. Moreover, memories imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), threefold. Singapore (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Korea stood at +2.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+2.7% per year) and Singapore (+14.4% per year).
In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of multichip integrated circuits: memories to China, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from South Korea stood at +13.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+5.2% per year) and Singapore (+5.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average memories import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 28%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while the price for the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
