Dried Mushroom Market Size in China

The Chinese dried mushroom market totaled $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 96%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dried mushroom exports rose notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main destinations of dried mushroom exports from China, together comprising 33% of total exports.

Imports into China

For the third year in a row, China recorded decline in overseas purchases of dried mushrooms and truffles, which decreased by -2.4% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a sharp decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 159% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dried mushroom imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a dramatic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 53%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of dried mushroom to China, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, dried mushroom imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X kg), sixfold. Hong Kong SAR (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at -17.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-23.8% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-18.5% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the largest dried mushroom suppliers to China, together comprising 50% of total imports.

Germany, with a CAGR of -8.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average dried mushroom import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -12.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 162%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+89.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
