In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-cellular polystyrene film imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-cellular polystyrene film imports to China, together accounting for 55% of total imports. Germany, Austria, Canada, the United States and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +27.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip to China, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 5.3% share.
