Exports by Country
Singapore (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main destinations of oils from coal tar exports from China, with a combined 80% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Egypt, Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +764.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X), Japan ($X) and Egypt ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for oils from coal tar exported from China worldwide, with a combined 79% share of total exports.
Egypt, with a CAGR of +540.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average oils from coal tar export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Oils And Other Products Of The Distillation Of High Temperature Coal Tar
Imports into China
In 2021, the amount of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar imported into China dropped rapidly to X tons, waning by -30.1% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 84%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, oils from coal tar imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +26.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 54%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of oils from coal tar to China, with a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, oils from coal tar imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), threefold. Singapore (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Korea amounted to +23.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+49.2% per year) and Singapore (+25.8% per year).
In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar to China, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from South Korea totaled +15.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+18.6% per year) and Malaysia (+39.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average oils from coal tar import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a deep downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
