Particle Board Market Size in China

The Chinese particle board market rose notably to $X in 2022, with an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, posted strong growth. Particle board consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Particle Board Production in China

In value terms, particle board production expanded significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of particle board, when their volume decreased by -39.2% to X cubic meters. In general, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 131% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X cubic meters, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, particle board exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 162%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Mongolia (X cubic meters), Vietnam (X cubic meters) and Nigeria (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of particle board exports from China, with a combined 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +64.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the key foreign market for particle board exports from China, comprising 19% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Vietnam stood at +77.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+26.0% per year) and the United States (+21.1% per year).

In 2022, the average particle board export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China

In 2022, the amount of particle board imported into China rose sharply to X cubic meters, increasing by 5.8% against the previous year. In general, imports recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, particle board imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 31%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Romania (X cubic meters), Thailand (X cubic meters) and Brazil (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of particle board imports to China, with a combined 56% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest particle board suppliers to China were Romania ($X), Brazil ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 53% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Brazil, with a CAGR of +32.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average particle board import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, picking up by 20% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
