In value terms, pear exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +86.2% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Indonesia (X tons) was the main destination for pear exports from China, with a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, pear exports to Indonesia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Indonesia stood at +6.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+1.7% per year) and Thailand (+6.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for pear exported from China were Indonesia ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 71% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, the Philippines, the United States, Canada, Singapore and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 24%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +12.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average pear export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -4.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 24%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China
In 2021, pear imports into China contracted to X tons, with a decrease of -10.4% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 136% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pear imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 70%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the main suppliers of pear imports to China, with a combined 85% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +54.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X) appeared to be the largest pear suppliers to China, with a combined 80% share of total imports.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
