Green Peas Market Size in China

The Chinese green peas market rose to $X in 2022, growing by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Green peas consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Thailand (X tons) was the main destination for green peas exports from China, accounting for a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, green peas exports to Thailand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Malaysia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X tons), with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Thailand amounted to -5.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+12.9% per year) and Vietnam (+25.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for green peas exported from China were Thailand ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for 83% of total exports. Canada, Australia, the UK and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

The UK, with a CAGR of +37.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2019, approx. X tons of peas (green) were imported into China; jumping by 630% against 2018. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2019.

In value terms, green peas imports skyrocketed to $X in 2019. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
