Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +15.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, polycarbonate exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.1% against 2020 indices. The average polycarbonate export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -4.5% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of polycarbonates (in primary forms) decreased by -3.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polycarbonate imports dropped to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

South Korea (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main suppliers of polycarbonate imports to China, together accounting for 46% of total imports. Japan, the United States, Spain, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +40.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average polycarbonate import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 45% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
