The Chinese quinoa market soared to $X in 2021, with an increase of 58% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In 2021, quinoa exports from China surged to X tons, jumping by 118% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a precipitous shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,238%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, quinoa exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,526% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for quinoa exports from China, accounting for a 23% share of total exports. Moreover, quinoa exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Oman (X kg), twofold. Ireland (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

These countries were followed by Canada, Hong Kong SAR, France, Singapore, the United States, Zambia and Malaysia, which together accounted for a further 36%.

Singapore, with a CAGR of +115.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average quinoa export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -27.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 22%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2015 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+29.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of quinoa were imported into China; with an increase of 71% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 3,106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
