In value terms, India ($X) remains the key foreign market for raw silk exports from China, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to India stood at -5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+3.3% per year) and Vietnam (+0.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average raw silk export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 17%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the amount of raw silk imported into China surged to X tons, increasing by 106% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 477% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
In value terms, raw silk imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 468%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Uzbekistan (X tons) constituted the largest raw silk supplier to China, with a 4.8% share of total imports. Moreover, raw silk imports from Uzbekistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), more than tenfold.
