The Chinese market for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles reduced modestly to $X in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles production rose rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles increased by 24% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 47%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Indonesia (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from China, together accounting for 40% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), South Korea ($X) and Japan ($X) constituted the largest markets for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exported from China worldwide, with a combined 37% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +13.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average export price for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 36% against the previous year. In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles, when their volume increased by 21% to X tons. Overall, imports saw perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 46%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
