In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Chinese semiconductor LED market, when its value decreased by -5.8% to $X. Overall, consumption saw a resilient increase. In general, exports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 57%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, semiconductor LED exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), India ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for semiconductor LED exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 40% of total exports.

The average semiconductor LED export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into China

In 2021, semiconductor led imports into China surged to X units, jumping by 35% compared with the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, semiconductor LED imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +35.7% against 2019 indices. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 a decrease of -2.1% against the previous year.
