Silver Ore Market Size in China

The Chinese silver ore market soared to $X in 2021, rising by 53% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption posted buoyant growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports from China

In 2021, shipments abroad of silver ores and concentrates increased by 108% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 176%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, silver ore exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the main destination for silver ore exports from China, with a approx. 99% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hong Kong SAR was relatively modest.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) also remains the key foreign market for silver ore exports from China.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Hong Kong SAR amounted to -1.8%.

The average silver ore export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Hong Kong SAR.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Malaysia amounted to +7.4% per year.

For the third consecutive year, China recorded growth in overseas purchases of silver ores and concentrates, which increased by 30% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 33%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, silver ore imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Peru (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons) were the main suppliers of silver ore imports to China, together comprising 74% of total imports. Cuba, Spain, Bolivia, Russia, the United States, Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +136.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Peru ($X) and Bolivia ($X) appeared to be the largest silver ore suppliers to China, together accounting for 82% of total imports. Spain, Cuba, the United States, Mongolia, Russia, Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.7%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +86.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average silver ore import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 34% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while the price for Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
