Snail Market Size in China

The Chinese snail market fell markedly to $X in 2022, reducing by -57.5% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a perceptible downturn. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Snail Production in China

In value terms, snail production reached $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 93%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Imports into China

In 2022, approx. X tons of snails (except sea snails) were imported into China; which is down by -69.8% on the year before. In general, imports showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 311% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, snail imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 157%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

South Korea (X tons), Mauritania (X tons) and Canada (X tons) were the main suppliers of snail imports to China, together comprising 94% of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
