Strawberry Market Size in China

The Chinese strawberry market amounted to $X in 2022, growing by 3.6% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last decade. Strawberry exports from China soared to X tons in 2022, growing by 21% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 62%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, strawberry exports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Vietnam (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Mongolia (X tons) were the main destinations of strawberry exports from China, with a combined 86% share of total exports.

Overall, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, strawberry export price increased by +46.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into China

In 2022, supplies from abroad of strawberries decreased by -50.1% to X kg for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 2,593%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, strawberry imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 4,318%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Hong Kong SAR (X kg) constituted the largest strawberry supplier to China, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, strawberry imports from Hong Kong SAR exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X kg), twofold.

From 2014 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Hong Kong SAR stood at +21.7%.

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the largest supplier of strawberries to China, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 28% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

The average strawberry import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 64%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
