Exports from China
For the fifth year in a row, China recorded growth in overseas shipments of tableware and kitchenware of wood, which increased by 29% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +76.6% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wood kitchenware and tableware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Japan (X tons), the United States (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of wood kitchenware and tableware exports from China, together accounting for 43% of total exports. Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Thailand, France, Australia, Russia, Canada, Brazil and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +18.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wood kitchenware and tableware exported from China were the United States ($X), Japan ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 44% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, South Korea, France, Thailand, Canada, Russia, Brazil and Italy, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Among the main countries of destination, France, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average wood kitchenware and tableware export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Tableware And Kitchenware Of Wood
Imports into China
In 2021, purchases abroad of tableware and kitchenware of wood decreased by -11.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood kitchenware and tableware imports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 47%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wood kitchenware and tableware to China, with a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, wood kitchenware and tableware imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Ukraine (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Vietnam (X tons), with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia totaled +2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Ukraine (+6,116.4% per year) and Vietnam (+15.5% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tableware and kitchenware of wood to China, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Russia totaled +3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+21.7% per year) and Ukraine (+2,770.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wood kitchenware and tableware import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+34.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
