The Chinese turkey meat market soared to $X in 2022, increasing by 29% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a abrupt slump. In 2022, overseas shipments of turkey meat decreased by -7.6% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 258% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, turkey meat exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 174% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Rwanda (X tons) was the main destination for turkey meat exports from China, with a 6.5% share of total exports. Moreover, turkey meat exports to Rwanda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Guatemala (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Rwanda was relatively modest.
In value terms, the largest markets for turkey meat exported from China were Guatemala ($X) and Rwanda ($X).
Guatemala, with a CAGR of 0.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
The average turkey meat export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 24%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahrain (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Turkey Meat Imports
Imports into China
In 2022, the amount of turkey meat imported into China rose significantly to X tons, surging by 7% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 712%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, turkey meat imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 658%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Chile (X tons), Russia (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of turkey meat imports to China, together comprising 98% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +171.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest turkey meat suppliers to China were Chile ($X), Russia ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 99% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Russia, with a CAGR of +197.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average turkey meat import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 24% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, turkey meat import price increased by +64.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
