The CIS aluminium alloy wire market declined to $X in 2022, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, approx. X tons of aluminium alloy wire were exported in the CIS; increasing by 9.2% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 63%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, aluminium alloy wire exports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X tons), committing a 21% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium alloy wire exports from Russia stood at +8.6%. At the same time, Tajikistan (+19.6%) and Kazakhstan (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +19.6% from 2012-2022. Tajikistan (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -10% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest aluminium alloy wire supplier in the CIS, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tajikistan ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.
In Russia, aluminium alloy wire exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tajikistan (+15.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (+15.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2022, supplies from abroad of aluminium alloy wire was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, aluminium alloy wire imports expanded to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) dominates imports structure, together constituting 84% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), creating a 6.8% share of total imports. Armenia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Armenia (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest aluminium alloy wire importing markets in the CIS were Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together comprising 92% of total imports. Armenia and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.3%.
Armenia, with a CAGR of +12.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 25%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
