In 2021, the amount of aluminium bars, rods and profiles exported in the CIS skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 34% on 2020. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +46.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, aluminium bar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons), together generating a 28% share of total exports. Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium bar exports from Russia stood at +8.3%. At the same time, Tajikistan (+67.2%), Uzbekistan (+43.5%) and Belarus (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +67.2% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+4.9 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia and Belarus saw its share reduced by -3.7% and -3.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest aluminium bar supplier in the CIS, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 30% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 5% share.
In Russia, aluminium bar exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+8.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+59.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+11.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, imports of aluminium bars, rods and profiles in the CIS rose markedly to X tons, growing by 5.8% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.4% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, aluminium bar imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +116.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the major importer of aluminium bars, rods and profiles, mixing up 46% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons), together making up a 46% share of total imports. Moldova (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium bar imports into Russia stood at +3.0%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+18.3%), Kyrgyzstan (+14.7%), Kazakhstan (+10.3%), Belarus (+6.1%) and Moldova (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +18.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+6.5 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+5.7 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Azerbaijan and Russia saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -9.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium bars, rods and profiles in the CIS, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 13% share.
In Russia, aluminium bar imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+5.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (+8.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 28% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per ton) and Moldova ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
