The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 5.7%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X tons of antibiotics were exported in the CIS; falling by -17.1% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 113%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, antibiotic exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 65%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Belarus (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together reaching 99% of total export.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +10.6%).
In value terms, the largest antibiotic supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X).
Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +5.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -43.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 101% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-4.2%).

Imports in CIS
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of antibiotics decreased by -14.7% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +33.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 32%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, antibiotic imports declined to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.9% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of antibiotics, mixing up 81% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 14% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) - together made up 4.9% of total imports.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antibiotics imports, with a CAGR of +9.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-16.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia and Uzbekistan increased by +10 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antibiotics in the CIS, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 3.9% share.
In Russia, antibiotic imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+2.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (+3.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
