Antimony Market Size in CIS

The CIS antimony market fell to $X in 2022, reducing by -8.8% against the previous year. In general, consumption posted a remarkable increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Antimony Production in CIS

In value terms, antimony production shrank significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 79%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Antimony Exports

Exports in CIS

In 2022, after eight years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of antimony, when their volume decreased by -9% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 84%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, antimony exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 154% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Tajikistan (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2022.

Tajikistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony exports, with a CAGR of +31.0% from 2012 to 2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Tajikistan increased by +35 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X) also remains the largest antimony supplier in the CIS.

In Tajikistan, antimony exports expanded at an average annual rate of +34.9% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 22% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, antimony export price increased by +114.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 76%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Tajikistan.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Tajikistan amounted to +3.0% per year.

Antimony Imports

Imports in CIS

In 2022, approx. X tons of antimony were imported in the CIS; waning by -83% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports faced a dramatic slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 84%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, antimony imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) was the key importer of antimony, constituting 53% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 20% share, followed by Russia (13%) and Uzbekistan (12%).

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony imports, with a CAGR of +6.7% from 2012 to 2022. Belarus (-7.9%), Uzbekistan (-19.6%) and Russia (-41.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+52 p.p.), Belarus (+19 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+8.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -79.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antimony in the CIS, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Kazakhstan stood at +7.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-7.7% per year) and Uzbekistan (-21.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 44% against the previous year. Import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, antimony import price increased by +89.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 87% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
