In 2021, the CIS apple juice market decreased by -19% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. Apple juice exports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, rising by 44% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, apple juice exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the major exporter of apple juice (single strength) in the CIS, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 64% of total exports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (7.5%). The following exporters - Armenia (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - together made up 4.1% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to apple juice exports from Russia stood at +5.5%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+36.3%), Belarus (+16.5%) and Armenia (+11.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +36.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+20 p.p.), Belarus (+3.6 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -18.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest apple juice supplier in the CIS, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+21.1% per year) and Belarus (+13.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+8.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of apple juice (single strength) increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, apple juice imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +118.5% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) were the largest importers of apple juice (single strength) in 2021, accounting for near 29% and 28% of total imports, respectively. Belarus (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 17% share, followed by Russia (15%). Uzbekistan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +356.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Russia ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan, which together accounted for a further 26%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +318.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 4.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (-2.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
