In 2021, the amount of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster exported in the CIS reduced slightly to X tons, leveling off at 2020 figures. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +10.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plaster article exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +8.5% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 38%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the key exporter of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster in the CIS, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 61% of total exports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (12%) and Kazakhstan (9%).

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+157.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +157.9% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-5.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+31 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -15.9% and -21.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest plaster article supplier in the CIS, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 15% share.

In Russia, plaster article exports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+131.1% per year) and Belarus (+0.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, approx. X tons of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster were imported in the CIS; with an increase of 6.9% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plaster article imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the key importer of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster, creating 32% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Moldova (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Armenia (X tons), Russia (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons), together achieving a 68% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to plaster article imports into Kazakhstan stood at +2.8%. At the same time, Armenia (+5.9%) and Moldova (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012-2021. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (-8.0%), Azerbaijan (-8.5%) and Russia (-19.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+16 p.p.), Moldova (+6.6 p.p.), Armenia (+5.9 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+5.3 p.p.) and Tajikistan (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Azerbaijan, Belarus and Russia saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -4.8% and -28.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 60% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Moldova, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan, which together accounted for a further 39%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Moldova, with a CAGR of +1.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 10% against the previous year.
