In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 331% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, polyethylene glycol wax exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 175%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Russia (X tons) represented roughly 99.9% of total exports in 2021.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the artificial and prepared waxes of polyethylene glycol exports, with a CAGR of +68.5% from 2012 to 2021. While the share of Russia (+11 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest polyethylene glycol wax supplier in the CIS.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +59.4%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep slump. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

Polyethylene glycol wax imports dropped to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -6.6% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 166%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, polyethylene glycol wax imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 121% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 54% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 31% share, followed by Uzbekistan (6.3%) and Tajikistan (4.6%). Kazakhstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +110.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial and prepared waxes of polyethylene glycol in the CIS, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 4.3% share.

In Russia, polyethylene glycol wax imports increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+14.5% per year) and Uzbekistan (+96.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
