The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +35.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Russia represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), comprising a 22% share of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the artificial corundum exports, with a CAGR of +11.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+9.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia increased by +1.8 percentage points.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of artificial corundum, when their volume decreased by -14.5% to X tons. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, artificial corundum imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -6.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Russia dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 93% of total imports in 2021. The following importers - Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) - together made up 5.9% of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+25.8%) and Belarus (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +25.8% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belarus (+2 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-4.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial corundum in the CIS, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 3.8% share of total imports.

In Russia, artificial corundum imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+10.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (+20.5% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 30% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
