In general, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
In value terms, orthopedic prosthetics exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 217% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X units) represented the major exporter of artificial parts of the body (excl. artificial teeth and dental fittings and artificial joints), mixing up 70% of total exports. Moldova (X units) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (10%). Armenia (X units) and Belarus (X units) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Moldova (+106.0%), Armenia (+76.3%), Kazakhstan (+70.2%) and Belarus (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +106.0% from 2012-2022. Moldova (+15 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+10 p.p.) and Armenia (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -28.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest orthopedic prosthetics supplier in the CIS, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Moldova ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 9.2% share.
In Russia, orthopedic prosthetics exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+52.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+61.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 118%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2022, overseas purchases of artificial parts of the body (excl. artificial teeth and dental fittings and artificial joints) were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, orthopedic prosthetics imports rose to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X units) was the main importer of artificial parts of the body (excl. artificial teeth and dental fittings and artificial joints), creating 64% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units), together comprising a 24% share of total imports. Belarus (X units), Uzbekistan (X units), Moldova (X units) and Armenia (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of artificial parts of the body (excl. artificial teeth and dental fittings and artificial joints). At the same time, Uzbekistan (+42.3%), Azerbaijan (+27.6%), Kazakhstan (+12.4%), Armenia (+10.9%) and Moldova (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +42.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Kazakhstan (+9 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+7.3 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+3.2 p.p.) and Moldova (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-5.2 p.p.) and Russia (-17.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported artificial parts of the body (excl. artificial teeth and dental fittings and artificial joints) in the CIS, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 7.1% share.
In Russia, orthopedic prosthetics imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+1.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (-0.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -14.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 26%.
