For the eighth consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in overseas shipments of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted), which increased by 101% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 335% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, baby garment exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 165% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Uzbekistan (X units) was the major exporter of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted), achieving 71% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Russia (X units) and Armenia (X units). All these countries together took near 27% share of total exports. Belarus (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Uzbekistan increased at an average annual rate of +27.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+52.9%), Armenia (+44.0%) and Russia (+31.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +52.9% from 2012-2022. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Uzbekistan (+71 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+6.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-10.4 p.p.) and Belarus (-64.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest baby garment supplier in the CIS, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Armenia ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Uzbekistan totaled +45.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Armenia (+45.6% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+71.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, jumping by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+14.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) increased by 34% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 119%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, baby garment imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Uzbekistan was the main importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 46% of total imports. Russia (X units) held a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (9.6%), Azerbaijan (8%) and Kazakhstan (4.6%). Tajikistan (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +49.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) in the CIS, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+12.9% per year) and Azerbaijan (+38.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -26.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 43%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
