Baby Carriage Market Size in CIS

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in the CIS baby carriage market, when its value decreased by -1% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a mild reduction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby carriage production dropped dramatically to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 654%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Baby carriage exports rose sharply to X units in 2022, increasing by 5.4% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, baby carriage exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X units) and Russia (X units) were the largest exporters of baby carriages in 2022, finishing at near 39% and 33% of total exports, respectively. Kazakhstan (X units) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (6.6%). Armenia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +895.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 95% share of total exports. Uzbekistan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.1%.

Among the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +516.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -8.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Armenia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Baby carriage imports was estimated at X units in 2022, flattening at the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby carriage imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the largest importer of baby carriages in the CIS, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), mixing up a 12% share of total imports. Belarus (X units), Kyrgyzstan (X units), Azerbaijan (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to baby carriage imports into Russia stood at -3.7%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+49.1%) and Azerbaijan (+36.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +49.1% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belarus (-1.8%) and Kyrgyzstan (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+3.1 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+2.6 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -8.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported baby carriages in the CIS, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+0.9% per year) and Uzbekistan (+53.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 28%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
