In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the CIS bearing market, when its value increased by 9.3% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bearing production rose significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X tons of ball and roller bearings were exported in the CIS; with a decrease of -3.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bearing exports totaled $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the key exporter of ball and roller bearings, making up 60% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (19%).
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ball and roller bearings exports, with a CAGR of -2.0% from 2012 to 2021. Kazakhstan (-4.6%) and Belarus (-9.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -12.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest bearing supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X), with a combined 100% share of total exports.
Russia, with a CAGR of -2.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
After two years of growth, purchases abroad of ball and roller bearings decreased by -0.8% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bearing imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 70%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia was the key importer of ball and roller bearings in the CIS, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 76% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons). All these countries together held near 21% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to bearing imports into Russia stood at +2.1%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +3.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-9.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+12 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-16.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ball and roller bearings in the CIS, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.
In Russia, bearing imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+6.4% per year) and Belarus (-6.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
