Belarus was the key exporter of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 59% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), making up a 38% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-4.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Base metal hook imports reduced to X tons in 2022, dropping by -12.2% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 144% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, base metal hook imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Uzbekistan represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 63% of total imports. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 22% share, followed by Belarus (5.6%) and Kyrgyzstan (5.1%). Kazakhstan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to base metal hook imports into Uzbekistan stood at +26.8%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+29.5%), Kazakhstan (+19.2%) and Belarus (+11.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012-2022. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Uzbekistan (+63 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+3.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-2.2 p.p.) and Russia (-63.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets in the CIS, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +3.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+27.2% per year) and Belarus (-1.2% per year).
