Base Metal Padlock Market Size in CIS

In 2022, the CIS base metal padlock market decreased by -1.3% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base metal padlock production rose notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +79.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 42%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of base metal padlocks, when their volume decreased by -12.2% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, base metal padlock exports fell to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +117.0% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2022.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +28.7%).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest base metal padlock supplier in the CIS, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

In Russia, base metal padlock exports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+0.2%).

Base Metal Padlock Imports

Imports in CIS

In 2022, imports of base metal padlocks in the CIS dropped to X tons, declining by -9.7% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a mild increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, base metal padlock imports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia was the largest importer of base metal padlocks in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 67% of total imports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Belarus (7.7%) and Kazakhstan (6%). The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) - each recorded a 4.2% share of total imports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of base metal padlocks. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+18.1%), Belarus (+8.8%) and Uzbekistan (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +18.1% from 2012-2022. Moldova experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+12 p.p.), Belarus (+4 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan and Russia saw its share reduced by -5.6% and -12.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
