The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -8.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, beet-pulp and bagasse exports contracted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +96.9% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Russia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beet-pulp and bagasse exports, with a CAGR of +6.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Russia (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest beet-pulp and bagasse supplier in the CIS, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 4.7% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.4%).

Imports in CIS

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of beet-pulp and bagasse, when their volume decreased by -21.2% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, beet-pulp and bagasse imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 77%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 69% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Moldova (5.5%) and Armenia (5.5%).

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beet-pulp and bagasse imports, with a CAGR of +34.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Armenia (+26.8%) and Moldova (+19.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belarus (-1.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+55 p.p.), Moldova (+5.5 p.p.) and Armenia (+5.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -64.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported beet-pulp and bagasse in the CIS, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan totaled +44.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+0.4% per year) and Moldova (+32.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 42% against the previous year. Import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, beet-pulp and bagasse import price increased by +86.7% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Moldova ($X per ton) and Armenia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Armenia (+34.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
