In 2022, Azerbaijan (X tons) was the largest exporter of bentonite, committing 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), making up a 10% share of total exports. Armenia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to bentonite exports from Azerbaijan stood at +5.1%. At the same time, Armenia (+17.2%) and Russia (+9.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Russia (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) represented roughly 76% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Tajikistan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons), together achieving an 18% share of total imports. Azerbaijan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +102.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bentonite importing markets in the CIS were Kazakhstan ($X), Belarus ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined 74% share of total imports. Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Among the main importing countries, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +73.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, bentonite import price increased by +54.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 31%.
