Benzene Market Size in CIS

The CIS benzene market reduced to $X in 2022, shrinking by -5.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption saw a slight decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belarus was the main exporter of benzene in the CIS, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 85% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), achieving a 15% share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the benzene exports, with a CAGR of +31.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+24.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -19.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. Benzene imports shrank to X tons in 2022, declining by -8.2% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 460% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, benzene imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 427%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

Russia dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 91% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), comprising an 8.5% share of total imports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the benzene imports, with a CAGR of +37.2% from 2012 to 2022. Belarus (-16.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+84 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-84.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported benzene in the CIS, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 9% share of total imports.
