In 2022, the CIS book cover market increased by 4.8% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the market value increased by 6.5%. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+574.4%) and Belarus (+15.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +574.4% from 2012-2022. Uzbekistan (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -3.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest book cover supplier in the CIS, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at +9.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+9.8% per year) and Uzbekistan (+116.3% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Kyrgyzstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the blotting pads and book covers imports, with a CAGR of +28.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Armenia (+27.2%), Moldova (+14.5%), Azerbaijan (+8.7%), Belarus (+6.4%), Russia (+3.7%) and Kazakhstan (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Kyrgyzstan (+32 p.p.) and Armenia (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -5.5%, -15.5% and -22.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Armenia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 60% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Armenia, with a CAGR of +30.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -32% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
