In value terms, bone glue and gelatin exports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Belarus was the largest exporter of bone glues and gelatin in the CIS, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 67% of total exports in 2022. Russia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Tajikistan (12%). Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Belarus increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+87.3%), Tajikistan (+85.5%) and Russia (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +87.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Tajikistan (+12 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-5.7 p.p.) and Belarus (-7.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the largest bone glue and gelatin supplier in the CIS, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with an 11% share.
In Belarus, bone glue and gelatin exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+14.2% per year) and Tajikistan (+91.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -1.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of bone glues and gelatin decreased by -4.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +108.1% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, bone glue and gelatin imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 92% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+26.4%) and Kazakhstan (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +26.4% from 2012-2022. Russia (+2.3 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bone glues and gelatin in the CIS, comprising 90% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 4% share of total imports.
In Russia, bone glue and gelatin imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+2.6% per year) and Uzbekistan (+32.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
